Liposuction reshapes your silhouette by removing, with fine cannulas, the localised fat deposits that resist diet and exercise. It is not a weight-loss method: it changes your measurements and contour, not the scale.
Liposuction contours the body by removing localised fat with fine cannulas through a few millimetre hidden access points. It takes 1–3 hours depending on the number of areas, usually as a day case or with one night’s stay; desk work resumes in 3–7 days. The compression garment is worn 4–6 weeks and the final result settles at 3–6 months.
- Liposuction is body contouring, not a way to lose weight.
- The fat cells removed do not come back; but if you gain weight the remaining cells enlarge.
- If the skin is loose it is not enough on its own — it is assessed together with a tummy tuck.
- Areas are shaped blended into each other; isolated removal leaves a stepped contour.
- The garment is worn 4–6 weeks; it reduces swelling and helps the contour settle.
- The final result appears at 3–6 months; swelling in the first weeks is normal.

What Is Liposuction?
Liposuction reshapes the body contour by removing localised fat with fine cannulas through a few millimetre hidden access points. It takes 1–3 hours depending on the number of areas and is not a weight-loss method.
Where your body stores fat is largely genetic. Some areas — the lower abdomen, the sides of the waist, the hips, the inner thighs — resist diet and exercise: when you lose weight everywhere else thins out and these areas stay. Liposuction targets exactly those resistant deposits.
What decides the quality of the procedure is not how much fat is removed but how it is removed. Working in balanced layers, choosing the right cannula size and smoothing the transitions to neighbouring areas are what make the result look natural. Aggressively emptying a single area causes dents and a stepped contour.
Liposuction has one limit: the skin. If skin elasticity is good it retracts to the new contour. If the skin is loose, stretch-marked and hanging, removing fat can make the sagging more obvious; then a tummy tuck or a combination is planned.

Areas and Techniques
Which areas and which technique suit you is decided by your fat distribution, your skin quality and your goal.
Aspiration with fine cannulas after tumescent infiltration. The most widespread and most predictable method.
Ultrasound energy loosens the fat; an advantage in fibrous areas and for superficial shaping.
Laser energy liquefies fat; in limited areas it aims at mild skin tightening.
The removed fat can be processed and transferred to the buttocks, breast or face.
The name of the technique is not what decides the result; the real difference lies in area selection, layer balance and blended transitions.

Who Is Suitable — and Who Is Not?
Good candidates
- People close to their target weight with localised stubborn fat
- People with good skin elasticity
- People bothered by the disproportion of a particular area
- People in good general health with realistic expectations who do not smoke, or can stop
Situations to postpone or review
- Anyone whose goal is to lose weight (reach the target weight first)
- Anyone with significant skin laxity (liposuction alone is not enough)
- Uncontrolled chronic disease, clotting disorder
- Active smoking
Liposuction is not a treatment for obesity. If your body mass index is high, a weight-loss plan comes first; that makes the result both safer and better.

Liposuction or Tummy Tuck?
| Situation | Right method | Why | Watch out |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tight skin, localised fat | Liposuction | Fat is removed and the skin retracts on its own | Weight must be stable |
| Loose skin + excess skin | Tummy tuck | The excess skin is removed | A scar remains at the bikini line |
| Muscle separation (diastasis) | Tummy tuck | The muscle is repaired with sutures | Liposuction does not repair muscle |
| Fat + loose skin together | Lipoabdominoplasty | Both are done in one session | Longer surgery and recovery |
In short: if the problem is fat, liposuction; if it is skin and muscle, a tummy tuck. Skin quality is the most decisive factor.
Decision Guide: Is Liposuction Right for You?
The skin sets the limit for liposuction. The rows below show why the first thing we look at on examination is not the fat but the skin.
Deciding on liposuction without assessing skin quality is the most common cause of disappointment. The decision is made at the examination, with a hand on the skin.
Combined Procedures: What Can Be Added in One Session?
Liposuction is often combined with other procedures; even the removed fat itself can become a resource.
The removed fat can be processed and transferred to the buttocks, breast or face — slimming and volumising in one session.
If the skin is loose too, liposuction is combined with a tummy tuck; a flat abdomen and a defined waist together.
Liposuction plus a tummy tuck plus a breast procedure. One anesthetic and one recovery period.
Planning the abdomen, waist, back and thighs together keeps the transitions consistent; treating one area alone can leave a stepped contour.
There is a limit to how much fat can be removed safely in one session. If a very large area is planned, splitting it into two sessions is safer.
How Is It Done? (Step by Step)
Mapping the areas
Marking is done standing; target areas and transition zones are outlined and access points planned.
Tumescent and aspiration
Tumescent fluid is infiltrated; fat is removed in balanced layers with fine cannulas.
Transitions and garment
Transitions to neighbouring areas are smoothed, the access points closed and a garment fitted.
Mapping the areas
Anesthesia
Tumescent infiltration
Fat removal
Blending the transitions
Closure and garment
The Day of Surgery: Hour by Hour
Uncertainty is the biggest source of anxiety. Knowing in advance how your day will go makes it a far calmer one.
No food or drink from midnight. Make-up, nail polish and jewellery come off; you shower.
You come with your ID; final tests and the anesthesia consultation are completed and consent forms signed.
Marking is done standing and archive photographs are taken. This is the last and best moment for questions.
It takes 1–3 hours. The anesthesia team is with you the whole time; you feel nothing.
You open your eyes in the recovery room. Pain and nausea control start here.
You take your first steps with a nurse — the single most effective step against clot risk.
Dressing, garment/bra and medication instructions are given in writing; your first check-up is booked.
In the first 24–48 hours after liposuction it is normal for pinkish tumescent fluid to leak from the access points; this is not bleeding and stops on its own. It helps to have someone with you. For the first 24 hours after discharge, do not drive or make important decisions; the anesthesia may not have fully worn off.
Recovery — Day by Day, Week by Week
Some swelling can last months; judge the final result at 3–6 months. The garment and lymphatic drainage speed this up markedly.
Aftercare: Do and Avoid
✓ Do
- Wear the garment regularly for the recommended period (usually 4–6 weeks)
- Take short walks from day one
- Have lymphatic drainage massage if it is recommended
- Drink plenty of water and limit salt (it reduces swelling)
✕ Avoid
- Smoking — it impairs healing and skin retraction
- Heavy exercise and lifting for 3–4 weeks
- Pool, sea, sauna and very hot showers early on
- Trying to judge the final result in the first weeks
Possible Risks and Safety
In experienced hands this is a safe procedure; even so you should know the possibilities:
- Swelling and bruising: an expected, normal process; most visible in the first weeks and helped by the garment and drainage.
- Contour irregularity: can follow aggressive or isolated removal; prevented by balanced layers and blended transitions.
- More visible skin laxity: with poor skin elasticity; this is why skin quality is assessed before surgery.
- Temporary change in sensation: can last weeks to months in the treated area and usually recovers.
- Seroma: fluid collection; managed with the garment and drainage if needed.
- Infection: rare; managed with sterile technique and follow-up.
- Deep vein thrombosis: rare; prevented with early mobilisation and compression stockings.
There is a safe limit to how much fat can be removed in one session. ‘The more the better’ is both risky and aesthetically wrong.
What to Look For When Choosing a Clinic or Surgeon
Recommending liposuction without assessing skin elasticity means the risk of sagging is being ignored.
If only one area is to be treated, how the transitions will be blended should be explained.
Large-volume liposuction must be done only in an accredited operating room with an anesthesia team.
The conversation should be about the contour you are aiming for, not ‘we will take X litres’.
Expected Change (Medical Illustration)
By law a surgeon cannot share real patient photographs. The diagram below shows the typical change: fat in the target areas reduces and the waistline and contour emerge.
Illustrations are for information; individual results vary with fat distribution, skin elasticity and weight stability, and are not guaranteed.

Questions to Ask at the First Consultation
These questions help you make the right decision at the pre-assessment:
- 1Which areas will be treated and how will the transitions be blended?
- 2Is my skin elasticity sufficient for this procedure?
- 3Is liposuction alone enough for me, or do I need a tummy tuck?
- 4Which technique will be used and why?
- 5How long will I wear the compression garment?
- 6Is lymphatic drainage massage part of the plan?
- 7In which approved facility and under what anesthesia is it performed?
- 8When will we judge the final result?

Liposuction Price (2026)
A firm price is given after examination, because the number and size of areas, the technique used, the type of anesthesia and clinic conditions vary per person. So you know what is included:
Usually included in the package
- Surgeon, anesthesia and operating-room fee
- Compression garment and medication
- Day case or one night’s stay
- Post-operative check-ups and lymphatic drainage guidance
- Transfer and coordination for international patients
The number of areas directly affects the price. A very low price usually means a compromise on operating-room conditions, the anesthesia team or follow-up.

Myths and Facts
Let us clear up the most common misconceptions with the facts:
✗ Myth: Liposuction makes you lose weight.
✓ Fact: Liposuction is body contouring. The change on the scale is small; the real difference shows in measurements and silhouette.
✗ Myth: The removed fat comes back.
✓ Fact: The fat cells removed do not come back. If you gain weight the remaining cells enlarge — which is a different thing.
✗ Myth: Liposuction tightens sagging skin.
✓ Fact: Liposuction removes fat, not skin. With loose skin it can make sagging more obvious.
✗ Myth: The more fat removed the better.
✓ Fact: There is a safe limit, and excessive removal causes contour irregularity. The goal is a balanced silhouette, not litres.
