Difficulty breathing, sleep apnea and snoring can be the result of structural defects in your nose. There may be curvatures in the cartilage and bone structures that regulate the nasal airway due to a structural or past trauma. Conchae (nasal meatus) located on the inner edge of the nasal bones may be larger than normal due to structural and allergenic reasons. These types of situations cause stenosis and congestion in the nose, preventing you from breathing comfortably. In most cases, these conditions can be resolved with nose surgery.

Am I a Rhinoplasty Candidate?

If you are unhappy with the shape of your nose, have trouble breathing, and meet a few key health and lifestyle qualities, you may be a good candidate for rhinoplasty. At the initial interview, you will determine whether you are a good candidate by performing a general facial examination and reviewing your medical history. In general, candidates for nose surgery;

ºHave a fully developed nose – Cosmetic concerns about your nose can resolve on its own as your nose develops naturally. The nose is usually fully mature around the age of 17 in girls and 18 in boys.
ºHave realistic expectations – Your treatment goal should be to improve your appearance rather than copying someone else.
º Be physically healthy – This includes the absence of any conditions that interfere with your body's healing process.
º Do not smoke or be determined not to smoke for long periods of time. Smoking can affect your recovery after surgery, so you should stop smoking before surgery and during the recovery period.

After this evaluation, we will look at whether there is a need for intervention in areas such as the chin, cheeks and forehead. We will transfer your photos, which we took with a digital camera from eight different angles, to the computer environment and show you these evaluations with animations we will make in a special program. With this animation, we will be able to see your expectations and explain the procedures that can be done more easily, and this will enable us to make a better analysis for nose surgery.

Your rhinoplasty procedure will be tailored to you based on your anatomy and desired results. General anesthesia will be used to make you comfortable during the procedure. Open or closed rhinoplasty techniques can be used depending on the structure of the patient's nose and the content of the procedures to be performed.

Open rhinoplasty – An external incision is made in the tissue that separates your nostrils.

Closed rhinoplasty – Incisions are made inside the nostrils.

Once the incisions are made, we will completely separate the skin from the cartilage and bone so it can reshape the frame of your nose. Finally, these incisions will be closed by repositioning the skin and tissue.

A splint will be placed to support and protect your nose. There will be a silicone pad in the nose for a few days after the surgery.

Nose surgery takes about 2-3 hours and you can go home the same day or the next day. It is extremely important that a companion accompany you.

It is common to have some bruising and swelling around the eyes during the first week after surgery. All measures will be taken before, during and after the operation to reduce these symptoms. Intense physical activities should be avoided for at least a week. Except for those with physically demanding job requirements, most patients can return to work after 7-10 days.

One week after the operation, the splint on the patient's nose is removed and taping is applied to reduce edema. In the second week, these bands are removed and massage suggestions are made if necessary according to the general condition of the nose.

During the recovery process, there will be a temporary edema in your nose for the first month. After this process, the edema will regress even more and the shape of your nose will appear in 3-6 months. It takes about 6-8 weeks for the bones to heal, so protect your nose from blows during this time, do not wear glasses. You should know that the full recovery of the nose will take at least 1 year. Therefore, you should wait patiently for the final result and try to protect your nose from all kinds of trauma until this time.
