Am I a Good Candidate for Breast Augmentation?

Almost anyone who wants to improve the size and shape of their breasts is a good candidate for breast augmentation. Whatever your goals for the procedure, it's important to have realistic expectations about what breast augmentation can accomplish and how it will affect your life. During the initial examination, I will explain every aspect of the procedure and evaluate your candidacy.

Generally speaking, an ideal candidate for breast augmentation is:

º Good physical health,
º Having enough natural breast tissue to cover the implant,
º Non-smoker,
º Do not have diabetes or other serious medical problems,
º Patients who are not currently pregnant or breastfeeding.

Your Custom Breast Augmentation Procedure

Your breast augmentation is a completely customized procedure for our patient. There are several factors to consider when designing your personalized plan, such as:

º Type of breast implant placed: We will ensure that you get the breast type you want with the choice of anatomical or round type prosthesis.
º The breast size you want to achieve
º incision site
º Implant site

In addition to these aspects of your procedure, other aspects that may affect your breast augmentation are:

Your dimensions and breast tissue: Your body type, natural breast size, and amount of breast tissue present will affect the type and size of breast implant that will best meet your goals.

Your lifestyle: If you live an active, athletic lifestyle, planning that can be more comfortable and consistent with your athletic lifestyle can be helpful.

Pregnancy plans: The desire to have children in the future does not preclude your candidacy for breast enlargement.

Types of Breast Implants

There are various breast implant options available. We will determine which option is most suitable based on your needs and wishes. Available options include:

Saline: These types of implants are approved for patients who are at least 18 years old. They are silicone-coated prostheses that are filled with sterile saline (saline) solution after insertion. In case of rupture, the saline solution is absorbed naturally and safely by your body.

Silicone: These types of breast implants are FDA-approved for patients who are at least 22 years old. They are pre-filled with a thick silicone gel and their volume cannot be adjusted after insertion.

Fat transfer: This implant alternative uses fat taken from a part of your body, such as the abdomen, hips, or thighs. This procedure is safe, effective and causes very little scarring.

Sizing Your Breast Implants

Determining the size of your breast implants is one of the most important decisions you will make when planning your breast augmentation operation. There are many factors to consider when choosing the ideal breast implant size for your goals. These factors include:

º Desired breast size after surgery
º Chest, height and weight measurements
º Breast tissue base diameter
º The amount of natural breast tissue present
º Skin elasticity
º Active, athletic lifestyle level

Breast Augmentation Incision Options

Your choice of incision for breast augmentation affects the location and appearance of your scar. The two most commonly used incision options are:

Inframammary incision:
This incision is made in the fold under the breast, where the breast tissue meets the breast. The scar will be inconspicuously hidden under the breast and will lighten during the healing process.

Peri-areolar incision:
This incision is made around the areola. During the healing process, the scar is lightened and effectively blocked by the color of the nipple area.

Apart from these incisions, breast augmentation can also be performed through incisions made under the armpit and around the navel.

Breast Implant Placement Site Options

There are two different implant placement options in breast augmentation surgery:

Subglandular placement (Under the Breast Tissue): The breast implant is placed over the chest muscle. This may be a suitable option for patients with slightly drooping breast appearance, who do not have breast augmentation combined with breast augmentation. We can also use under the breast tissue above the muscle in people who do active sports.

Submuscular insertion: The breast implant is placed behind the chest muscle. This option is ideal for patients who have little natural breast tissue for adequate implant coverage.

Breast Augmentation Recovery Process

Breast augmentation surgery takes approximately 1-2 hours under general anesthesia. You will wear a surgical bra for about 1 month and an elastic band will be placed over your upper chest if necessary. You will rest for a while after the surgery and then you will be taken to your room. It is important that a relative accompanies you during this process. We recommend that you get out of bed the first night and walk as much as possible and continue your regular activities on the first day after the surgery. You can take a shower after two to three days. You can return to light exercise in two weeks and more intense exercise in four weeks. It may be necessary to wait 2 months for heavy sports.

We can suggest some breast massage techniques to help soften and heal your breasts. The scar, when healed, is usually 4-5 centimeters and is vague. If necessary, supportive scar treatment can be started to facilitate recovery.

How Long Do Breast Implants Last?

Although breast implants do not have expiration dates, they are not intended for lifetime use and are not FDA approved for life. While modern silicone implants typically last more than 15 to 20 years, saline implants should be replaced every 10 years.
